NSF CETP-PA Teacher Scholar
Shippensburg University
Ashley K. Kitner

I
am a Senior elementary
education major with a concentration in mathematics. I am from
York,
Pennsylvania and graduated from Red Lion Area High School in June
2000. I
am involved with Kappa Delta Pi, a national honors education fraternity
and the
National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.
I will graduate from Shippensburg University in May with a
certification
in Elementary Education and Middle School Mathematics.
I am currently student teaching at my second
placement at West York Middle School where I teach sixth grade
mathematics. My first placement was at
Wellsville Elementary School in Northern York School District where I
taught
all subject areas in a fourth grade classroom.
At both of my placements I’ve had the opportunity to use a
variety of
teaching techniques in order to teach to the fourth and sixth grade
curriculums
and Pennsylvania standards. I have
enjoyed both grade levels and the differences in the students and the
subject
material. I am now in the process of
trying to find either an elementary or middle school mathematics
teaching
position for the 2004-2005 school year. When I’m not in the
public schools
teaching, I enjoy working out and playing volleyball. Over the
summer I
was employed as a manager at Aloha Snow and also as a childcare worker
at
Strictly Fitness. I also taught a group of
preschoolers at my church's vacation bible school. I loved
teaching so much
that I decided to become a Sunday school teacher for two and three-year
olds.
I have taken two
CETP-PA courses
at Shippensburg during my undergraduate
work. These courses include Fundamentals of Math 1 and 2.
