    What is the Teacher Education Center for Science, Mathematics, and Technology?

      The IUP Teacher Education Center for Science, Mathematics, and Technology is a collaborative effort of education faculty from the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and the College of Education.
       

    What departments are affiliated with the Teacher Education Center for Science, Mathematics, and Technology?

      The center member departments include Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geoscience, Mathematics, and Physics in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and Professional Studies in Education, Special Education and Clinical Services, and the University School in the College of Education.
       

    What is the mission of the Teacher Education Center for Science, Mathematics, and Technology?

      The mission of the Center is to promote excellence in the cross-disciplinary teaching, learning, and research in the disciplines represented in the Center.  The Center serves the needs of preservice and inservice teachers in obtaining the cognitive and pedagogical base congruent with the national and state standards for science and mathematics education.
       

    What types of programs/services does the Teacher Education Center for Science, Mathematics, and Technology offer?

      Examples of programs and services include....

      • planning and implementing professional development activities for preservice and inservice teachers through collaboration with Intermediate Units and/or school districts,
      • providing leadership to school districts for the development of curriculum materials and the development of teaching activities in science, mathematics, computer science, and quantitative literacy,
      • providing opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration to provide services for teachers, school administrators, and school districts,
      • developing and/or promoting activities for the recruitment of girls, women, and members of underrepresented groups to the education profession in science and mathematics,
      • providing assistance to Center member departments in developing workshops and graduate level courses for teachers, and
      • preparing cross-curricular grant proposals to provide research opportunities for students, teachers, and IUP faculty.
